 <content:encoded>&lt;div class='rss_texte'&gt;&lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;The first year classes in some the School of Law and the School of Sociology at the Cheikh Ante Diop University in Dakar, Senegal are conducted in overcrowded amphitheaters. Although the The School of Law has the structural capacity to accommodate 1200 students into one class, it consistently enrolls over 5000 new students each year into its program. Students have to come two hours before class to secure a decent seat. (Polgren, 2007) Those who are too far back in the classrooms do not adequately hear the professor's lecture. The majority of students who can not secure a seat to listen to lectures either stand outside of the room, crooning through the windows, or are obliged to review second and third hand notes to keep up and prepare for assessments.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Podcasting represents a new use of the Internet to publish and distribute audio in downloadable formats. Schools are around the globe are offering similar access to lectures converted to Mp3 files. Through the use of opensource &#8220;free&#8221; technology, Podcasting offers a cost-effective, time-flexible route for students to have daily access to course lectures and thus improve their ability to perform on tests.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;The primary aim of the study will be determine to what extent students receiving the Podcast intervention will improve their scores on final exams when compared to the controls. It is hypothesized that students in the podcast intervention group will have higher academic performance than those in the control group. THe research will be conducted by the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Africa and the Association for Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) during the second semester 2010.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;&lt;strong class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Phase I:&lt;/strong&gt; The feasibility and acceptability of the Podcast intervention with approximately 15 students will be pre-test. Process data collecting technical and pragmatic issues related to Podcast recording, web site access issues, web-tracking of student access or any other technical issues will be collected through the log of the Web Master. An exit interview at the end of this phase will be conducted to assess pragmatic and technical issues experienced by students, as well as the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of using the system.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;&lt;strong class=&quot;spip&quot;&gt;Phase II:&lt;/strong&gt; Approximately 2500 Students will be enrolled into a Podcast intervention group during a full semester class at the University of Dakar.
